Your First Consultation
At your consultation appointment, you will:
-
Undergo eye testing and have dilating drops put in; and
-
Meet with the physician for your consultation.
To begin your consultation appointment, one of our technicians will test your vision and dilate your eyes with dilating drops. (Please note that you cannot drive after your eyes are dilated, so you must arrange for transportation after your appointment.)* The drops take approximately 15-20 minutes to fully dilate your eyes. During this time, you will be seated in our waiting room where we play educational videos on the nature of your eye condition.
Once your eyes are fully dilated, we will bring you to an examination room where the physician will perform a complete eye examination and discuss their findings with you. The physician will then outline all options available to you for treatment and intervention. When your appointment is complete, you will be directed to reception, where one of our staff will assist you in booking any follow up tests, procedures, or surgeries as recommended by the physician.
We encourage you to bring a family member or friend with you for the discussion portion of your consultation appointment. The physician will provide you with important information at this time and this is a good opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
Please allow at least 1 hour for this appointment.
NOTE: You may not drive yourself from this appointment, as dilating drops will be used.
CONTACT LENSES: If you wear soft contact lenses, please remove them at least 24 hours before your appointment. If you wear hard or rigid contact lenses, please remove them at least 1 week prior to your appointment.
Dilation & Driving:
*Dilation = No Driving
You CANNOT drive a motor vehicle when your eyes are dilated. Accordingly, you must arrange for transportation from your consultation appointment.
If you can't have someone accompany you to the appointment, taking a bus or taxi by yourself after the appointment is fine.
On average, the dilation effect lasts for 4-6 hours. However, some people may be affected for the remainder of the day.
